Brine Children
Flayed skins they see
dry on well-smoothed rocks
unattended by the spear throwers
who dive back into the frenzy.
This band of rapscallion kids
snatches the hides still wet
and steals them away to a field,
their own private cove.
In the distance deep-bellowed
hollering echoes from bull and
cow seals who watch hunters
scream and cry over their loss.
