Painting of Sagebrush (Green), Clouds (White), and Raven (Black) on Rice Paper with Wax
for
K. C. Tebbutt
Low-ground:
Rio Grande, its liquid orange at sunset.
High-ground:
Sangre de Cristos blood red before dusk.
Mid-ground:
the indigo empyrean between.
Earth
turns violet on black wings.
The
sage Cloudraven of Taos—night’s yellow stars
in his
eyes, obsidian-black—makes blue come
into
the artist’s micaceous backlit orbs
afire
in the blackness of space.
